Contrary to popular opinion, there is no scarcity of resources
to care for all the people of our planet. Mostly what is seen
as resource shortages are really allocation and logistic problems
of getting needed resources to those in need.
We strive to eliminate the disparity through communication.

The
StoneSoup Story
People
Need Help
Contrary to popular opinion, there is no scarcity of resources
to care for the all the people of our planet. Mostly what is seen
as resource shortages are really allocation and logistic problems
of getting needed resources to those in need.
Help
comes in many forms and is most frequently is made more effective
by direct one-to-one action taken by caring and compassionate people.
If you are one of those people, this site is for you. StoneSoupHosting
is a socially-responsible hosting company focused on enabling "Do-Gooders"
to do good work. It was inspired by a childhood story about a hungry
traveler who had only a stone and a good story to help himself get
fed.

The
Story
One day a traveler approached a village and upon arriving at
the marketplace talked cheerily with the villagers of adventures
had, lands traveled and life experiences. Deciding that hunger
would soon descend, the traveler carefully produced a stone
from within a coat and proudly proclaimed to all that one could
make soup from a simple stone.
Dismayed,
somewhat curious and understandably skeptical the villagers
inquired as to how this could be so. Upon which the traveler
offered to demonstrate if only someone would provide a kettle
of water and a fire to warm it. Quickly a a kettle of water
complete with large spoon and fire were offered up by the curious
onlookers. The traveler then gently placed the stone into the
kettle, occasionally stirred and tasted the broth. After a time
one of the villagers inquired of the traveler "How is it?"
to which the traveler replied "Fine. Fine..., except that
it seems to be missing something..." "Perhaps some
carrots would help." offered one of the villagers. The
carrots were placed into the kettle and stirred with the onlookers
becoming progressively more curious. The traveler again tasted
the broth and the conversation eas repeated... "Maybe some
of these potatoes will improve the taste.", offered another
of the villagers, and into the kettle they went. Simmering,
stirring, tasting and comversation continued until all manner
of flavor enhancers (corn, beans, turnips, peas, etc.) were
added to the kettle by the villagers until one last taste by
the traveler who said, "...now, it is almost perfect, except...,"
and someone quickly offered up some meat. The meat was stirred
into the broth, now a quite hearty soup and when done the traveler
proclaimed the soup perfect, dished it up for all to eat, retrieved
the soup stone, wiped it off and placed it back into the coat.
All ate well that day and witnessed the miracle of making soup
from a stone. The traveler continued with new journeys and adventures,
all the while meeting new people and being well fed. | |

Our
traveler had learned that communicating a need, encouraging and allowing
others to help then sharing the joy of the success can lead to good
outcomes for all.
Those
in need can sometimes use a hand with making whatever flavor of stone
soup suits them. And those of us sitting in the village marketplace
can provide the turnips, potatoes and meat to turn it into a hearty
stew.
